Description

Complete copper column still set including manual, alcoholmeter, hob, turbo yeast and book

In our images we show the products you will receive, including accessories and a free ithermometer. The column is equipped with a basket for distilling herbs, plants and flowers for making essential oils. This still is ideal for making beautifully scented lavender oil. Read more about making essential oil and hydrolates here. Our copper column still is available directly from stock and shipped free of charge. In addition, all stills are supplied with heat-resistant sealing tape and hose clamps for the cooling water hoses. The stills are deliberately fitted with heat-resistant tape (easy to remove after use) to make the connection with the cooling coil gastight. This is the safest method. This set includes an hob (only 3 to 10 litres), alcoholmeter, turbo yeast and a book about making distilling spirits. The still can be used on any heat source: from hob to gas burner (with the exception of induction). Please note: unlike in the photo, the 20- and 30-litre still do not include an electric hob. The hob is not powerful enough to heat this amount of fruit wash. We recommend heating the still on a gas flame for this quantity. To reduce the distilling time, you could also heat the 10-litre still on a gas flame. Also view our oak wooden barrels for storing and ageing your homemade alcoholic drink. You might consider purchasing our siphon hose with filter for transferring the mash from the fermentation vessel into the still. If you want to make essential oil using the copper column still, the separating funnel is a handy accessory to order. After the distillation process, the essential oil floats on the water. With the Separating funnel, the liquids can be easily separated.

Quality stills

With our very good quality copper stills you can make your own moonshine in addition to essential oils. We keep our prices competitive by buying in bulk. So, you can get started producing essential oils or distilling your own spirit straight away. All copper stills are crafted in Europe. We trust in our quality, which is why we provide a three-year warranty on all stills.

Multifunctional copper column still

As you can see in the pictures, this column still is multifunctional. When you fold the column outwards, you have a Moonshine alembic still type A as in the video below.

How big is the column/basket of the pot still?

We sell the column still in different volume sizes from 3 litres to 30 litres. This measure of capacity refers to the amount of liquid that fits in the lower part of the still, also called the belly. Below is an overview of the dimensions of the column/basket where herbs, plant material, flowers and other ingredients can be placed:
3 litres: height 16 cm (6.3 inch), diameter 13 cm (5.1 inch).
5 litres : height 18 cm (7.1 inches), diameter 14 cm (5.5 inches)
10 litres : height 23 cm (9.1 inches), diameter 15 cm (5.9 inches)
20 litres : height 26 cm (10.2 inches), diameter 20 cm (7.9 inches)
30 litres : height 29 cm (11.4 inches), diameter 22 cm (8.7 inches).
See “Additional information” for the total dimensions of the selected product.

How much drink is left after the distillation?

This depends on a number of things, including the process of distillation, the alcohol percentage in the mash and the alcohol percentage in the final product. Roughly speaking, we apply the rule that you are left with about 10% to 15% of the mash as an end product. You fill a still up to a maximum of 80% with mash. So you can fill a 10 litre still with a maximum of 8 litres of mash. Of this, you will be left with about 1 litre of finished product (liqueur, whiskey, gin, etc.).

Why are stills made of copper?

Copper is a good heat conductor, which helps the mash to heat up evenly. The length of the distilling process effects the taste. Over the years it has been shown that copper, in combination with the specific shape in which the still kettles are made, benefits the taste. We therefore only sell copper kettles that are manufactured in Europe and not stainless-steel pot stills, which often come from China.

Legislation applies to distilling spirits. We are certified and we have a permit from customs to be allowed to sell these stills. Distilling water, essential oils, etc. is allowed in most countries. Distilling alcohol is only allowed in most European countries with an excise permit. When purchasing one of these appliances, or if you want to distil alcohol, you must therefore comply with the applicable legislation in your country.
