Whisky still

289,00899,00

With this characteristic whisky still of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 or 50 litres you can make your own whisky. The shape of the still ensures that the alcohol vapour makes more contact with the copper, resulting in a distillate that is as pure as possible. This optimises the alcohol content in your whisky.

Description

Whisky still

This characteristic whisky still is specially made to create the ideal reflux during whisky production. The reflux is the amount of water vapour that is returned to the still during the distillation process, so that the alcohol content in the final product is as high as possible. The whisky still has a characteristic shape so that the alcohol vapour makes more contact with the copper. This creates the purest distillate possible. This alembic still is made in Europe and of high quality.

Capacity of the still

The still is available with a capacity of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 or 50 litres. This means that there is always a whisky still to match the amount of whisky you would like to make. The product images show the still and accessories you will receive. The whisky still is made in Europe and of the best available quality. The still can be used on any heat source; from hob to gas burner (with the exception of induction). With this still you have a ready-made set to start distilling straight away. We recommend heating stills from 15 litres and up on a gas flame. To reduce the distilling time, you could also heat the 10-litre still on a gas flame. See “Additional information” for the dimensions of the selected product.

Making mash

When you start distilling spirits, you will first need to make a mash. You can make a mash by combining whisky turbo yeast with tap water and sugar in a fermentation vessel. There are fermentation buckets with and without airlock. An airlock is not required for our whisky turbo yeast. See the instructions on the turbo yeast packaging for the correct ratios. Also view our whiskey barrels for storing and ageing.

How much drink is left after the distillation?

This depends on a number of things, including the process of distillation, the alcohol percentage in the mash and the alcohol percentage in the final product. Roughly speaking, we apply the rule that you are left with about 10% to 15% of the mash as an end product. You fill a still up to a maximum of 80% with mash. So you can fill a 10 litre still with a maximum of 8 litres of mash. Of this, you will be left with about 1 litre of finished product (whiskey).

Why are stills made of copper?

Copper is a good heat conductor, which helps the mash to heat up evenly. The length of the distilling process effects the taste. Over the years it has been shown that copper, in combination with the specific shape in which the still kettles are made, benefits the taste. We therefore only sell copper kettles that are manufactured in Europe and not stainless-steel pot stills, which often come from China.

Buying a whisky still

The 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 or 50-litre stills are available directly from stock. The still is shipped free of charge and all stills come with hose clamps for the cooling water hoses. Currently, the whisky still comes with a free thermometer.

Distilling alcohol

Legislation applies to distilling spirits. We are certified and we have a permit from customs to be allowed to sell these stills. Distilling water, essential oils, etc. is allowed in most countries. Distilling alcohol is only allowed in most European countries with an excise permit. When purchasing one of these appliances, or if you want to distil alcohol, you must therefore comply with the applicable legislation in your country.
